The thing is that an engine with that much blowby would almost certainly had a damaged bore or piston. Wasting time and money on oil flushing is unfortunate. The first job should have been pull off the head and inspect the insides for damage. Now you've probably got a lump of scrap metal that might or might not have salvageable parts in it.

True in hindsight. It’s all a learning experience.

It was bought with two options in mind, fix economically or as a donor body for the next perentie project. The body’s in pretty good condition. So will salvage that.

They are a very simple engine and easy to rebuild but cost inhibitive really
Chances are it could need a crank regrind = oversized bearings and a rebore with new pistons and rings
Sell the head as 200 Tdi heads are like rocking horse poo

If it was a 300tdi with an R380 I might be tempted to have a go. But not that keen with an LT77 of unknown quality, and parts being hard to source. I even had trouble on the weekend finding an oil filter.

its a tdi, easy. to nearly impossible depending on how much work you want to put into it.

Tooling will be the issue for measuring up.

Ta Dave. I think I’ve pretty much decided to lift the body off the 1992 Defender and to replace the white 1983 county body on the perentie (remember we swapped the LT95 btw the silver and white perentie ages ago?).

It would be handy if you could come back to Brissy in the next week or so. The rebuilt gearbox is still in the back of the white wagon. Thanks Bearman.
