Switched power to the cargo area

What's the best place to splice into under the dash to run power to the back of my 2008 Puma? The obvious place to me is the cigarette lighter socket, but is there a better spot?

I've bought a Reversing Camera but I want to use it as a full time Rear View Camera (the view in the standard mirror is very limited!) so I need to run switched power to connect the wiring. I've already ran twin cable back there with the video cable, just need to hook it up somewhere.

I'm connecting it to a VMS GPS unit, but it's primary purpose will be as a rear view screen, I can just unplug the input cable when I need to use the GPS and revert to the standard mirror. Will this even work??

I am an electrical numpty so use little words please.

What model 2008 do you have.
You will more than likely find there are unused switched circuits in the factory fuse box.
Hook into those and you can fuse it appropriately

In my '09 Puma, I sourced an Ignition feed from under the driver's seat, then just fused it and ran it to where I wanted it.....

I did a similar setup with a VMS except the camera is on the camper trailer.

VMS works well as a camera screen and yes, when you plug the aux in it goes straight to the camera, unplug and goes back to where you were.

On the camper I set it up to the parkers so I can switch it on and off fairly easily using existing wiring. Night time I just unplug it if I need to see the gps.

    Thanks for your advice.

There is a switched brown wire under the drivers seat with a 15 amp fuse, I just tapped into that.
I now have an accessory socket in the rear for whatever use, maybe a fridge if I decide to go that way. To be honest with the limited amount of camping we do, a bag of ice a day in the Esky is way cheaper...

The VMS is hooked up now as a rear view camera and is working ok, although picture quality is a bit dull, I'm not sure how useful it will actually be. Time will tell.
I have to re-visit the wiring where I hooked it up in the back, the picture is upside down!!! Hopefully reversing the wires should fix that (?).

    Cheers,
