    Light bar installation issue

We are wiring up my Puma 130 for fitting a light bar. A wire has been spliced into the high beam wire and relay switch installed etc. now the high beam doesn’t work at all. Are there any tricks to this I need to know?

Upon further checking the left hand high beam is working normally but the right hand doesn’t work at all and the blue high beam indicator light on the instrument cluster doesn’t illuminate.

    Hi,
    Does the light bar work,?
    Is the relay clicking?
12 V to the relay coil from high beam wire?
12 V to the relay common terminal from the battery?
12 V from the relay normally open terminal to the light bar?
An earth for the relay coil and the light bar?

    Cheers

Thanks for this reply. The light bar is not working and I haven’t heard the relay clicking. Given that I am more than 3/4 deaf and I have to have the motor running I can’t be sure whether the relay clicks or not.
Is the Defender light setup negatively switched? I have seen that mentioned but then someone else said that applies to Japanese cars and not defenders.

    Hi,
The Defender switches the 12V positive.
You have to have the ign switch in the run position to get power to the headlight circuit, no need to have the motor running though.

I've just recently done the same. Picked up power from the fuse box under dash with a piggyback fuse. Went to a Relay in the exbox via a lr switch in the dash. No problem at all. I wonder if you have a bad earth? Other than that I'd be checking the wiring again.

Check the right hand high beam fuse as the first step.

Things have gone from bad to worse. Now cannot start the vehicle. Battery checks ok. Horn works. Windows work etc. all lights come on at the instrument panel but when turn key to start nothing happens. There is no indication that the starter motor is being activated. We have disconnected both battery terminals in an attempt to reset cpu. Nothing! Central locking from the remote doesn’t work but works with the key. Any suggestions will be appreciated. All the electrical work for the light bar has been disconnected.

    Hi,
Read the owner's manual on the list of steps to take to be able to disconnect the battery without having this happen.
It is quite easy, but do it now.
    Cheers

Thanks for your help. I have followed the manual instructions a few times but without success. At one stage the remote locking started working so locked and unlocked a few times. Then tried to start but the dash lights didn’t even illuminate. So then disconnected the battery again following the manual instructions. After that the remote locking didn’t work but the dash lights came on. I then disconnected the dual battery and then the main battery following instructions. No luck again. I am just about at my wits end.
