My blower (AC/heater/cabin) fan is cutting out intermittently - the car is a MY10 110. It doesn't seem to matter which speed (1/2/3), nor whether you turn it on via the dash switch or via the AC itself - it will still intermittently not start. I am pretty sure the AC itself runs (can hear the compressor cutting in), but as I say the fan does not. After a few minutes of driving, it will sometimes start for reasons known only to itself (a loose wire re-establishing contact?) but then again it can also sometimes stop while driving (same wire coming loose again?).
My thoughts are to start at the fan connection in the engine bay, AND the dash switch - the fact that it doesn't care about the fan speed or switch-on method makes me think it's an earth wire somewhere...
Has anyone had this before, and/or have any other suggestions where to look?
Thanks in advance!

SupporterLooking like my problem is the same as travelrovers... I can find what I think are correct voltages at the resistor and the fan motor when it's switched on, and I ran a direct lead to to the fan to try to get it to spin: no joy. So, I think dead fan.
I've pulled the fan out: not fun. The LH inner guard liner/ arch flare needs to move, plus the power steering reservoir/ washer water reservoir/ air intake duct to be able to extract the fan motor. It's out, so will now order a new one. If only LR had allowed a bit more room between fan box & wing top, or made the fan box mirror image for RH drive cars... Argh. Not looking forward to putting it all back together.... that guard liner is a pig of a thing, especially the bolts along the top of the wing.
OK, enough whinging, credit card time.

SubscriberIt could be that your ignition switch is on its way out. When the fan is not working, do you have radio and power in the lighter socket? If not, then it's most likely your ignition switch.
OK: it was the fan motor. The new one plugged in and worked straight away.
HardCharger, thanks, but I was reasonably sure it wasn't the ignition switch. I replaced that about 12 months ago (not that they can't fail again) and I did have power to everything else (including the fan!).
Final note: I may not have needed to remove the inner guard lining to remove/replace the fan. If I had just moved the power steering reservoir/ washer reservoir/ fresh air intake (that's "all"...) I might have had enough room to slide everything forward and extract the fan from above - not sure. It was a bit of a squish fit in and out (from above) even with the inner guard loose. Ah well, will try that next time. But, quite happy for there NOT to be a next time...
