Mines a 350 mm wheel I had one on since 1987 I like how the steering feels better with the smaller diameter wheel

It's not a pretend safety feature. It's a meaty bit of padding between your chest and the steel steering column. That said, if the steering column even attempts to impale you, your probably done for anyway.
Those motolitas look nice. I like the standard wheel but do wonder what the drive would be like with a smaller one.

I considered the smaller 14” motolita but decided it would be too boy racer. The 15” is close to original size. The leather and slightly thicker wheel is so much better than the skinny plastic original.
The middle lump on the original puma wheel would not necessarily help in an accident. It’s a poor attempt to meet a half-arsed regulation / no airbag IMO.
Moto-Lita is a classic steering wheel. Momo etc don’t work with classic Defender - just IMO.
I have one of the Nakatanenga 36cm wheels: ➤ RAID sports steering wheel - available at low prices! | Nakatanenga 4x4-Equipment for Land Rover, Offroad & Outdoor
Very happy with the look & feel of that (but appearance is always subjective). The smaller size doesn't feel heavier, gauges aren't obscured.

Contrary to what has just been posted, I put my original back on after a few years with a thick smaller one “SAAS” .
I prefer the larger one.
