Did you change a filter in the gearbox?
Hi everyone I have a 300tdi 130 and on a recent trip away I noticed a lot more heat than usual through the seatbox. I was towing a smallish trailer.
It was pretty uncomfortable in the car and I’m not sure what could be causing this all of a sudden. Just before I left, I have changed all fluids, the injection pump has had a small tweak and I have a different front bulbar. Now I’m wondering whether I have decreased airflow under the car from the bullbar? The car is running hotter with the pump tweak? Or maybe the gearbox is hotter with the new oil?
Anyone have any advice on this one?

No I didn’t, should I have? Other than the fact it’s uncomfortable, is it a cause for concern? Could the transfer case or gearbox be getting too hot?
Has the transmission been serviced?
Does your transmission have an oil cooler?
Some transmissions have internal filters which need to be changed or they block up. I don't know if that applies to yours, but it did to our D1 300Tdi auto.
A good transmission service with a full flush and any required filters plus fresh oil might be a great idea for longevity and peace of mind.
Transfer case and gearbox oil have both been replaced just before I went away. Mechanic has used Penrite transgear 75w 80 for both.
I made a double layer heat shield to go between exhaust and floor. That fixed it.

My opinion is that a pump tweak could increase exhaust temps, but someone much wiser than me might give a better explanation. I made the heat shield after a desert trip, when the seatbox and floor were too hot to touch.Outside temp was over 40˚C, 4 people, we were on sand, the aircon. was on, the tray was full of gear and we were pulling a 1 ton camper trailer. We were away for 3 months. I've since tweaked the pump, and the floor remains bearable.
