You need to recover the refrigerant, you can't pump them down.
Make sure you cap and seal everything really well, as in almost gas tight.
Also the loom is a PITA from memory, I think I just cut mine but I was tossing the lot
i'm in the process of giving the dash a refurb and would like to give the air conditioner a spruce up too (repair crack and repaint outside)
the dash is removed and the air conditoner seems to be oly attached to the pipes.
how do i remove it? do i have to de-gas or can i switch something off first?

I believe it's illegal to release the gas into the atmosphere, as it's very bad for the environment. An auto electrician will recover the gas for recycling (or destruction), then return later to re-gas for you.
Don.
You need the right gear and technically need to be licensed to work on any form of AC or refrigeration.
Being in the industry and having to conform to the rules to keep my license and avoid massive fines I can't really suggest otherwise.
Having said that a small top up on the systems I work on is often 40-80kg of gas......![]()
ok, i might spruce it up in situ or leave it until the air con needs regassing
thanks for advice
