How full is the tank?
Is it coming from either the large hoseclamp for fill
Or possibly the breather / fitting

SupporterI foolishly cleaned my Td5 Ute a couple of weeks ago and discovered what I thought was a leaking fuel cap hidden under layers of diesel and dust.
Easy fix I thought, new cap fitted but still leaking as the photo shows!
Seems to be coming from the collar on the filler but I’m not so sure. There is more movement up and down on the cap than I would expect. Could it be the new cap is as stuffed as the old one? Maybe nothing wrong with the old or the new and it is the top of the filler?
Nothing to tighten or adjust... perhaps replace the neck bit?
Anyone had a similar problem?

Possibly
But your filler looks to be the one piece moulded filler neck and breather.
My guess is the plastic welded flange to moulded neck has sprung a leak
Orrrrrr the seal in the cap is bunk (I know it’s new)
Best way to test is, remove filler tube and breather tube
Take off entire unit
Remove cap
Tape off the cap hole, the main filler hose hole and then whack on a length of 3/4 hose to the breather stub.... sink it in the bath and blow on hose
If the weld has failed you can use a soldering iron to reseal it
If there is no leaking with above
It has to be the fuel cap

I replaced the gasket inside the cap with one of these recently (50mm variant), and hasn't leaked since

SupporterI fitted the replacement cap and it still leaked so I put the original back on and it has now stopped! No idea why it has stopped, tank has been refilled a couple of times but nothing else altered. I have ordered a new gasket just in case.

SupporterI went through 3 or 4 fuel caps on my 300 tdi defender ute, in the end I got cranky as each successive cap leaked worse than the last, so I put the original back on, no leaks...
It's the land Rover self heal mechanism, it just takes some time, and won't work when you have no other option.
