    Front passenger doesn't stay open.

    Hi All,
Looking for some info on a possible fix.
The front passenger door on my 2012 defender doesn't like to stay open, the check mechanism is there but no click in so to speak, it's been like this from delivery. Dealers wouldn't consider it as a problem that needed to be fixed.
The drivers door isn't great but it's miles better than the passenger door. Any slight incline means that it has to be held open to get in and out, etc.
Was wondering if anybody has had similar problems and maybe had a fix for it.

    Cheers Glen

I don't know if your mechanism is the same as my '97 model, but if it is, it's pretty basic in the way it works. Have you taken the cover off for a look? I attacked mine years ago because it would click, but not hold the door in position. I dismantled it and pruned the squidgy plastic buffer down to a smaller size and that fixed it. It's been fine since.

In keeping with Puma Defender build quality and QC you will find that the 2 little 8mm head bolts that pre clamp the door stay spring will be loose. One is difficult to see , you will have to bend a bit of the dash plastic away slightly...

Have a look at the (spring) bolt on the door pillar, probably loose, never been tightened properly! Had same on mine, driver's door wouldn't stay open. Tightened the bolt, all works :0)

    Thanks for the replies.
I'll have a poke around over the WEnd if I get a chance.
Maybe the wife will stop hitting me if I get this fixed.

    Cheers Glen.
