Thread: How to replace puma dash t5 globe?

Not such a stupid question as I had the exact same problem! I broke the locking clips on the bulb holder trying to get them out.

In then end I broke the bulb and used a fine pare of needle nose snap-on pliers to grab what was left and remove the base.

I replaced them with a led style unit.

I asked Landrover Australia about replacing the holders, and they could not provide a replacement part! only the entire plastic assembly.

I broke a couple of the retaining lugs and to replace them you have to buy the entire loom then fit it. I just resorted to sticky tape to secure them. You can put tissue paper or kitchen roll on the bulbs to try to prevent them breaking. Or once you get the knack of changing them you can change them once a month whether they need replacing or not just to prevent them getting tight.....preventive maintenance. If you can hold the holder in two fingers then pull the bulb with two more it usually shifts. Don't forget the paper, just in case it does break.

If the bulb is dead anyway, would glueing a close fitting bit of plastic tubing over it give enough purchase to shift it with out inflicting self harm?

Back when I was an electronics tech, we pushed a piece of plastic tubing (we called it "spaghetti") over the bulbs in panel switch/lamps to extract them.

I still have a special tool (given to me when I was a trainee tech back in the Sixties) designed to remove and install lamps of telephone switchboards - BPO Tool No. 4.

Your thoughts helped out quite a-lot, as it got me thinking about other stuck globe variants, tapes and adhesives.

I then came across this gem targeted for the t-10 globes. The concept is the same.

For me the clear tape did not work, but I have now successfully extracted all the t-5 globes by using some gorilla tape folded over the bulb to give my fingers some extra surface, leverage and force to pull the globes out. There was no breakages and the globes came out quite easily from the extra grip.

A great way to save a few bucks for all Puma owners and not have to buy a loom.


I did have a casualty which was the cigarette light clip, however i am going to replace the whole thing with a usb socket.

For my vehicle, i replaced the bulk with standard SCA 12v 1.2w globes from the local supercheap.
I will be looking at jaycars t5 wedge replacement globes when these become dull or die.
An alternative would be stedi's t5, however they are fairly pricey.

I still have to replacement the t5 within the clock (green globe), so i will test out an LED and keep you all posted.
