Finally fitted new Turbo core defender 130 TDI.

Well after having it for a few months finally fitted my new Turbo Core. Relatively easy job if your confident swinging spanners. A few things to look out for. The turbo oil drain feed is a pain to remove. I used a 27mm that has been ground to hold the fitting on the block and a 28 mm to remove hose fitting. I had the intake and exhaust manifold bolts off and pulled it towards the guard allowing access to fittings with a bit of a wiggle. Spanners sockets needed spanners as above, 10 mm, dip stick tube, and two central inlet manifold bolts. 13 mm lower inlet manifold bolts and turbo oil feed line. 15 mm socket exhaust manifold and down pipe. Now a problem that can raise its ugly head is that exhaust manifold where it is joined to the turbo can crack around the internal mating faces or the manifold outer edge. Luckily for me I had sourced a good one prior to fitting so escaped without dramas. Reassembly was the reverse, sat turbo manifold on exhaust pipe (nuts fitted but loose to allow movement) and was able to offer up and fit oil return line pipe without issue. Replacing gaskets as I went. After checking all bolts I tighten in a sequence from centre out. Filled turbo core with supplied oil and let it sit for 15 minutes to allow lubrication spinning turbo core by hand a few times. Then fitted turbo oil feed pipe, and other intake pipes, started it up and let it idle for a few minutes. Check for leaks , All good. The supplier recommends fresh oil change and new oil supply pipes. I had recently changed oil and filter. Inspection of pipes showed no issues so after a clean out just in case. used the old ones. I don't have a boost gauge but car appears to have bit more pickup. Old turbo had excessive shaft moment and was starting to weep a bit of oil. A tip from a full time rove mech is to use single hex sockets to avoid rounding the heads of the bolts/nuts if they have not been off for awhile.
