    Defender 300tdi won’t go past 110kmh

    Hi everyone,
My 300tdi 130 wont go past 110kmh unless I’m going down a hill. It used to get at least 130kmh.

5th gear feels like it settles on 2500rpm and the pedal is to the floor- the engine feels like it’s not working hard but I can’t get more from it. Other gears I can rev right up but 4th will max at 110kmh.
    Temperatures stay in normal range.
    Fuel consumption has dropped too.
I fitted an allisport updated intercooler and an egr meter about 6months a go but I am not sure when this issue started.

    Happy for any ideas.
    Thanks
    JP

I started using fuel additives from Cost Effective Maintenance years ago. Half way through the first tank I was pulling 10-12 kph faster in every gear. Not cheap, and I have no affiliation with them, but wow did it make a difference. I'd recommend trying it. Picked me up from 110 kph tops to 130 easily.

I'd say you have a turbo boost leak.

Do you have anyway to look at your turbo boost pressure?

I'd be thinking you have blown a hose off from one of the hoses to the intercooler. Check all the hose clamps and fittings from the turbo to the intake.

yep sounds like a collapsed or de-laminating turbo hose

the C.E.M additive micksta1973 mentioned makes a difference as well if your not regularly pulling heavy loads...

Wow! is that a real 110kmh or just on the speedo cos I know my speedo at 100kmh (on the phone gps) is reading 113kmh.
And if I were to get to 110 it'd be a rather scary ride. But you've got me thinking about looking at those hoses as well - thanks

    Hi everyone,
I will check the turbo hose. I can hear the turbo whistling once i hit third so i assumed it was ok.
The hoses were relatively new - but maybe one has come off somewhere. In terms of boost pressure - i do have a gauge (but its not fitted along with many things in my pile of stuff to add on!).
I do actually have some additive in the garage i can put though the system but I think the drop in performance is really significant.
Anything else i should be looking for?

Get a spray bottle with water and dish washing liquid and spray it on hoses with motor running. Leaks will cause bubbles.

300tdi's glaze the bore if you don't use them to pull heavy loads on a regular basis

using CEM keeps the glaze away and they run much better...

    in my experience.
