I think that's how they are, the motor is fairly small compared to similar aftermarket under-dash units , and those used in farming equipment cabins through the '80s, I've looked at a couple here and there is not really room to put anything bigger in, but if you manage it, let us know!


Edit: I'm assuming of course it's the Aussie fitted passenger footwell job?

I have recently rebuilt my 130 hpcu aircon , with new fan motor and various parts. Yes its cold but even with a new fan i was not overcome with joy with the air output. The best bang for bucks was the fitting of a small caravan/car fan to the dash above the centre vent, with the vent blowing into the fan you would be surprised the difference it made. Even my daughter commented how cold the aircon was after a small drive. I believe the fan helps with the circulation to the rear seats as well. Worth a shot before you spend big money. Remember to change the fan means a complete strip and removal then refit.

Oil the bearings, an oil can with a long spout will get in there. Made a noticeable difference to mine.
Also make sure the fan is getting full battery voltage, the speed switch might need a clean too.

I too would like the fans to be push out more in my 300Tdi. There were some photos on Facebook (AULRO page) late last year of the unit all dissembled.

Ideally I would like to toss the original unit and get something new, but searching the net for a suitable replacement (similar slimline style) is proving fruitless. There are some in America but they are to suit a LH drive car.
