    Td5 High speed crank

    Hi all,

I have an EU3 td5 defender that runs like a woolly goat, injector balance on number 1 and 3 are quite variable, it's quite smokey.

It always starts right up no matter how long it's been sitting. The MAF is good, the MAP/IAT is also fine. The CPS has been replaced, the injector loom has been replaced, the AS10 was also apparently replaced at the same time, the original AS10 and CPS came with the car in the cubby.
2 injectors have also been replaced by the previous owner chasing the problem, they then gave up

    I have not done a compression test....yet,

But here's the kicker, it shows a constant "high speed crank" fault that will not clear, even with the engine off . I swapped ecu's and as soon as the new one is in, even before starting the car the same fault re appears.

I'm not sure if this is what is causing my poor running, or if its unrelated and the engine is dusted / I have burnt valve's or damaged injector, but I have never seen this before.

The fault is even there with the cps unhooked, at both the cps and the ecu plug.

    Has anyone seen this before?

Should I invest in an oscilloscope?

Could another faulty as10 be a possible cause?

    Cheers
    James

Is there some damage to the CPS wiring? pretty common where people do the clutch and forget the sensor and damage the wiring.
The plugs can be stretched with the shielded wiring being messed up.
Dave at Wilmington will probably have a dead D2 you can remove the D2 CPS (can be done but its pretty short) wiring this may help
I know of a bloke in Saudi that had one that had been trashed mercilessly for years and it had wiring issues that were very difficult to find.
I dont think it will be the AS10 as it does start I would bet money on wiring
I have couple of spare green top injectors if needed.

CPS harness usually a break in the area it splices into the main harness.

    Hi Duane,

Yes there is some damage, that I have repaired

However, the high speed crank fault remains AFTER I removed all the cps pins from the ecu.

I am suspicious it's not the reason the vehicle is running bad though, I think it might be down on compression/dusted.

I would however like to remove the cause of the ecu fault before going any further, hence why I removed the wiring altogether... But the fault remains, this has me stumped I must admit!

    Cheers

Yep I agree, but why would the fault remain after the wiring at the ecu is unhooked?

Bad earth or something else getting crossed up?

you should get CPS high resistance if its not plugged in.

an open circuit is infinite resistance, and infinite is a pretty high number in my book.
