Does the bonnet flex with a wheel and tyre on it? Is reinforcing required, plus the chequerplate?

The kit that was on my dirty old TDI was way more substantial than the one linked about.

Lots of bracing under the bonnet, bonnet held up just fine

I can confirm what ever Kit was fitted to mine worked fine with disco steelies

Along with the reinforced bonnet you will also need the stronger bonnet stay rod, which if you have a 300 tdi, you should also already have.

Realistically all the mount is, is two bolts through the bonnet that a metal retainer goes over, then is bolted down, the outside edges of the rim then sit on 4 Rubber buffers which are also bolted through the bonnet.

A reasonably skilled shed tinkerer should be able to make all of these.

If I were making one I would probably copy the genuine idea, but design it too fit all size rims.

It's the size of the rim centre that is the problem btw.

I’m using the factory 5.5” steel rims so it should be fine I imagine.
Thinking I could buy this part : AQU110010 | Clamp Plate - Land Rover Part AQU110010

And buy the retaining plate and buffers then just make a steel plate to go on the underside of the bonnet

I would like to avoid having checker plate on top of the bonnet

    Yep, that's probably the go.

That piece goes under with the three holes through the bonnet. Then the reinforcing plate goes on top and bolts to it.

    Hi
Do all Tdi 300 have the reinforced bonnet braces and support. I would like to do this for my 130. How is the chequer plate bonnet guard attached, Just glued?
    Cheers

No, it needs to be added, or get a reinforced bonnet.

What about a spare wheel carrier off the rear door of a Disco 1? Surely they couldn't be that dear from a wrecker?

Although it might be a bit deep if used with a steel rim.
