    300tdi vacuum pump alternatives

Seems like my vacuum pump as crapped itself gents. Having a look at the lobe it runs off its chewed up. Im not keen installing another pump there. Needs a new cam i guess. What could of happened. Oil starvation? Is there an oil squirter there. Looks like there something like an oil squirter providing lubrication.
My thoughts were blanking the space off and going either electric vacuum or going with an alternator with a pump on its bum.
Problem is where the original alternator is i dont think there is much room as the exhaust is there. I supose i could get a gwen lewis kit and mount an alternator there with a vacuum on its bum. Possibly use the td5 vacuum pump? There is a problem of oil source. All these alternator/pumps require a oil line. Im not keen teeing the vnt turbo line. Any ideas guys? Just go electric? With wiring, does the electric vacuum pump work when pressing the brake pedal or is it constantly on with the turn of the ignition.?
Thanks in advance. Hoping to get some advice from somone that converted to something else as im not keen to be removing the camshaft. Does anyone know if replacing the camshaft involves taking the timing cover off and pushrods out. But does it involve removing the head?

I think electric is the way to go, not enough room a an alternator with vac pump attached. Yes to timing cover off and you will need to remove push rods and then lift the rollers up which will require sump off i think, i have a good camshaft you can have if you go this way.

Instructions are included in the box.
supplied with vacuum hose as well.

Just 3 wires. Positive and negative, positive connected to the starter motor battery terminal, negative to an earth stud on the firewall.
One smaller wire, ignition on, to active the unit, which I connected to the injector pump stop solenoid.
I mounted the unit to the firewall beside the brake booster towards the outer wing.
It runs for about 1.5 sec to replenish vacuum upon pedal application.
basically it maintains a constant vacuum in the booster.
This is a vane pump, so it makes a buzz/hum while operating.
The cheaper units use a piston similar to an air compressor, so would be rather noisey.

    Hey mate,

Recommend the electric route. Mine has been installed since 2011 and not touched since. Custom fabrication for the blanking plate. Sits under the driver's seat, a little noisy but hey it's a 300tdi.

Struggling to upload photos so PM if interested.

    Cheers

I would be interested in a rough price. How is it on multiple applications, for example going down hill .

I haven't noticed any issues with multiple brake pedal applications.

    cvrvp655 cost around $550

Has anyone tried the vp555. An alternative to the vp612. Its self regulating pump.
Not sure if its a vane type. I just see the self regulating valve crapping itself....maybe better to go vp612

Have just ordered the cvrvp655 cause I'm sick of replacing the standard vacuum pumps. Will see how it goes.
