Not so interesting it turns out.🥺
It’s now Saturday and no news on the vehicle, so I surmise that the shift display hasn’t arrived.
I’ll call Monday and see if I can see the vehicle either way.
    More to follow!

Sorry to be the one to point this out, but I'm pretty sure that going to see your vehicle is not one of the four lawful reasons to be out and about in Melbourne at present. Even picking it up. I'd be surprised if LRA would be complicit, but then I guess $50k buys a fair bit of looking the other way.

I think having you're car is an essential thing.. How else would you get around to do those other essential things. Holden LS3 and 6 Speed Auto Install Kens’ 2012 110

Yeah sorry to come across as a wet blanket, but I am currently spending most of my 14-hour shifts in a plastic suit, doing lengthy decontamination procedures after every case and frequently being forced to withhold treatment from sick patients. And then having to justify myself at a police roadblock to get home from work. I'm very keen to see an end of it and not very tolerant of behaviour that flouts the rules intended to bring that about. But not altogether without sympathy for those who are being stuffed around by said rules.

27 years in the military and trained and worked at the Human Isolation Unit at Fairfield Hospital Melbourne during the HIV/AIDS outbreak in full isolation suits complete with its own air supply, I’m pretty good at following Public Health directions, especially during lockdown.

It would very hard to accuse me of “flouting” any rules.

That being said, the Victorian Government allows vehicle maintenance from workshops etc to occur, so I’m not breaking any Victorian lock down directives with my one return trip.

    Ha, no Mike!

We actually had no real patients as it was set up for things like Ebola and COVID. Seriously exotic contagions.
The following Government shut it down. Bit of a mistake there!

My girl friend at the time was shot by the Hoddle Street shooter, while playing up on me with another bloke. Just minor shrapnel in their hands etc from broken auto glass.

We had to burn our uniforms after looking after the HIV patients at the end of the shift, cleaners, kitchen staff etc wouldn’t come near them!

Also had the last iron lungs in Australia there, that was a very humbling place to work.

    A fascinating time.

I spoke with Andrew this afternoon.
They were mucked around again with the shift indicator install into my instrument pod.
It arrived today, so it’s now looking like next week for completion.
    It is what it is.🥺

    Guess what I did today!

    What a fantastic day;

I drove over to Les Richmond Automotive in Thomastown, met up with Andrew and Paul, and Andrew gave me my Defender to test drive. What an experience!

You pop the bonnet, and see that huge 6.2 V8 engine in there as opposed to the OEM 2.2, but it looks factory, with far more spare room than I expected.

Climbed in, turned the key to ignition and the LED shift display illuminates with an LRA splash screen, then big white P.

Start the car and it rumbles immediately into life.

It sounds great at idle, not loud, but deep and let’s you know this isn’t a standard Defender.

Pull out into the traffic and smile from ear to ear, it’s so different, and you need to remind yourself that you don’t need to shift gears.

On to the freeway, 100 KPH, the vehicle sits at 1900RPM, you can hold a comfortable conversation, it sounds great but the whole car just feels so tight, no slop or hesitation, even less mechanical noise than before. It’s just a totally different car.

I love it and am so happy with my decision to do this mod, and use Andrew/Paul at Les Richmond Automotive. What a professional crew.

Photos and video to follow when I collect the vehicle next week.

It has to go back to the Auto Trimmers as they made the leather gaiter on the gear selector too tight, so you can’t shift into sport mode. That, and some minor wiring, engineering sign off and it’s done.

I’ll do the required 1000k run in/bug check before I return to Tassie over the next month or so, lock down allowing as able.

By coincidence, Pat Callinan messaged me a hour ago as they want the vehicle in their magazine etc.

    More to follow.
