You are NEVER going to regret this conversion, I've seen a few videos of the Landrover Defender 70th Anniversary edition, & EVERYONE who drives it absolutely loves it, you are going to have more power & torque, the only problem you will have is wiping the smile from your face!

    It’s all happening!!!

    Just a wee bit excited;

Andrew at Les Richmonds’ phoned today, the vehicle that was booked in before my 110 to have the V8 wand waved over it has had to reschedule, so I’m now busy trying to arrange vehicle transport to Melbourne from Devonport.

They can start working on my 110 in the next three weeks!

So, a decent stripping out of my stuff, a good exterior and interior clean, and off to Australia to be reborn. Exciting times.

I have my Discovery 4 HSE to drive around in while the heart transplant takes place over the next three months.

Of course, my Defender is currently carrying 230 litres of diesel in its three tanks as I was going to go bush for a while, and I’d just fitted a new radiator last month but such is life.

Here we go, it’s all happening!

    Defenders’ all booked for travel!

Excellent, the vehicle is booked to be picked up by the transport company on 31 MAR 20, to be delivered to Les Richmond Automotive in Thomastown on 04 APR 20.

I had planned to take it over so as to talk with Paul and Andrew, but quarantine put an end to that.

$890 one way, door to door for my 2.4 high vehicle as the RTT is still on the roof. I’m happy enough with that.

Now, to just shovel all my belongings out of the vehicle, recovery gear etc, wash it externally and clean it internally, and also label any electrical mods that might stump Paul seeing I can’t hand it over.

As a side note, the price of Ultimate 98RON is $1.50 at present, which is comparable to Diesel at $1.49 in Tassie.

    More as this progresses.👍

    Hiya

Curious. Know LS3 excellent engine. However, why not the L77 with switchable cylinders, and perhaps????? a bit more tractable.

    Cheers

Are you planning on towing anything heavy in the future? I.e. caravan?

Be interested to know if the LS in a Defender will make it a good tow vehicle,

LS 3 would be a handsome piece of kit for towing, I'm happy enough with the 2.2 stage 1 Bruce Davis did on my 2/14 car pulling an 800 kg camper. My Town Car is a 2014 Commo SSV with the 6 litre L77 so I'm impressed with this project.

The vehicles engine installer (Les Richmond Automotive) don’t seem to use it.
Ive no idea why not but it’s not something I’m loosing sleep over.
I’ll ask though next time I speak with Andrew or Paul.👍
The vehicle left for the mainland last night so is in Victoria now!

And other mods occurring at Les Richmond Automotive

My vehicle is now at Les Richmond Automotive in Melbourne, and after discussion, these are the drive line mods that will be done at the same time as the LS3 install.

Rear Maxi Drive axle upgrade and converting rear wheel bearings to oil fed. But using the longer outer spline axles and Maxi Drive flanges.

    Front.
    Maxi drive axles
    Ashcroft cv joints
We can use maxi drive flanges or retain your Drive flanges.
“Whatever flanges are on the rear use on the front to keep the looks the same”

    Excellent.👍

You are comparing GM against JLR engines plus different gearbox....doubt they give a car the same characteristics. I am not saying one is better than the other btw but the delivery will be different for sure.

And so it begins. MaxiDrive and Ashcroft Running gear

03 APR 20 And so it begins:

As above, Maxidrive and Ashcroft running gear. Andrew is right on to it, as the vehicle was picked up from me in Tassie on Wednesday1 APR, delivered to Andrew at Thomastown Victoria on Thursday 02 APR. Got to be happy with that excellent service from the Transport company!

They are also going to fit a HD A Frame and ball joint.
