you may remember that I’ve lost the function of the Speedo and Odometer on my modified Instrument cluster in my 2012 110.
My 110 has an LS3 6.2 V8 and a 6 Speed GM Automatic which was fitted by Les Richmond Automotive in Victoria. As such, the cluster has a lovely animated gear selection display with start up splash screen in the centre.
This was contracted out of house to a no longer used firm in Victoria.
As an interim work around for the Speedo, I’m using a GPS HUD which I love.
Anyway, as I’m live in Tasmania with no access to an Instrument technician, the fault finding to date has shown the following:
Speedo Transducer at the Transfer box is good, Signal at the OBD port is good (speed and odometer reeding on OBD reader at port).
Extensive visual check of cables into cluster and all pins in place, however, both connector at the binnacle and the loom swapped over for new yesterday to be sure. Still no improvement.🥺
Dismantled cluster to review soldered pins at loom connection and re soldered so absolutely no dry or cracked joints. A known fault.
No improvement. 🥺
I could see no issues with any other connections/solder joints etc in the circuit board but don’t have the skill to test beyond that.
There was a yellow electrical resistor or similar (Pic attached), and third unsoldered pin floating around in my cluster from the modifier, I wonder if it had shorted something causing the failure? I’ll never know Pretty sloppy!
I purchased a low km UK cluster which will require Authorising re security to key to my vehicle. It powers up fine.
It will require all my connections and circuit board/display to be transferred over to it to replicate my current failing cluster, unless of course I can find a repair of the OEM cluster here in Tasmania or a fast turn around service on the main land. Any suggestions?
