Defender 110 gear knob crumble

This happened to mine, likely from sitting in the sun when parked and picked by yours truly when driving [biggrin]

There are a few different options I found depending on the budget.

on the expensive spectrum, there's the Startech brand which is an upgrade from stock. I found them here from my favorite website

The same website used to have a slightly cheaper one which was all aluminum which I thought was cool, but it doesn't look like they sell it anymore.


I would also maybe suggest trying triumph rover spares if you're interested in the cheaper options. I get all my replacement stuff from them. Lights, body panels etc. I'm sure they have a stock gear shifter there somewhere. and prices are definitely cheap when the right part is there.

My knob fell off last week too. Maybe I've been working it too hard... It's got a few years on it so it was bound to happen.

I've gone with MUD uk heritage replacements (website image below). They're 100% bakelite and have a locknut so hopefully more secure than the original.

Try 4WD Industries they have heaps of gear for Landies (series & defenders) just got heaps for my series 3 including gear lever knobs.
They are in Rutherford near Newcastle 02-49333766 ask for Mathew in Spares he is very helpful.
The site is easy to navigate, lots of gear and they deliver.
One of the best sites in Australia.

Yes they have quite a bit of stuff though the new gear tends to be expensive. They occasionally wreck a defender or disco.

I must be one of the few who coughed up for a genuine replacement eventually. I admit that I get a minor thrill out of driving now, not having to handle the sticky, gooey mess that was my original repaired gear knob.

Yes its expensive, but personally I dislike repairs using non-matching, albeit functionally similar parts... just a preference based on what i'd like to find were I looking to buy a Defender, and work out what sort of attention it's had
