Mine lasted 10 years. The genuine replacement part cost $145 in 2018. Imagine how much it would have cost if it had moving parts!

So , when does a police officer look at your knob to ensure it complies with the law?

The young bloke at work was defected recently for no gear pattern on the gear knob, and noise.
While the car has an exhaust system I doubt the car was illegally noisy.

The highway patrol here in the Hawkesbury have a long record of targeting 4WD’s and you often see some poor guy pulled over on the side of the road with the bonnet up and the cops all over it checking and measuring everything! It seems you don’t need to do anything to draw attention to yourself other than drive a 4WD.

Not a direct replacement, but this is what I did to mine.

What did you do on your Defender today ? (well, this week anyway)

It's a 5 speed knob so not strictly legal.

The Hawkesbury region is terrible atm. My tip is to shadow a patrol with a 6" lift or a similarly beaten up Hilux as you pass through Nth Richmond. Improves your chances of slipping through.

I saw a guy pulled up in north Richmond a few weeks ago, he was in a stock looking newish land cruiser. I was heading to Richmond to do our shopping at Woolies. On the way home I passed the cop coming the other way past the polo grounds and he gave me the ‘you are next’ look as we passed. I was in our 300Tdi..

    Thanks in advance.
