fitting red dot into rear of 130.

I have commenced to fit a R-6480 into my 130 after removing the old underdash unit which was not cutting it up in North QLD.

Cooling BTU: 22,300 BTU/Hr with 36°F (6.5 kW with 2.2°C) refrigerant temperature and 80°F (26.7°C) wet bulb entering air
    Air Flow: 325 CFM (552 m3/h)

I purchased through an auto electrician the R-6480 around $937 + GST which after research is quite reasonable. I forgot to order the stand and pipe cover which cost another $250 all up. The 130 has a lets call it a tapered rear wall. if it was flat you would not need brackets. I had a mate fold up another bracket which runs from the unit to the wall to provide further stability. It was solid on the feet but now its rock solid.

Controls: fan switch : I used heavy duty 5 core wire and moved the switch from the unit to the my dash unit (Photo) Soldering the switch end and connectors on the unit end incase i have to re route.

Thermostat I left in situ as to move it I would have to buy another thermostat. I wont be changing temperature once i find a happy medium.

The strange thing i found was that aircon guys i spoke to will make and run pipes but wont touch electrical side. I could wire it up myself but im looking at warranty.

Motor end : I recently fitted a 4bd1/T. im using the original defender condenser which my auto elec is happy with i fabricated some brackets and rotated Condensor so inlet are now on the left hand side as the ac compressor is on the passenger side when looking from the drivers seat. Just awaiting the final plumbing and electrical work by the auto elec and will proved my feedback.

Im guessing the whole setup will be just around $2000 for a working unit.

Be interesting to see how it performs…..

I installed the same unit into my 110HT, it performs better with a different auto elec playing with it but wouldn’t call it amazing. I too selected this unit based on BTU’s……at the same time we laid it flat on its back………

em thinking about removing it, mainly cause it take up vital room in the front of cab…….

Having a chat with my auto-elec next week about one of these.

I thought about lying it down where centre consul was but was concerned with draining it. I have seen a ministryof defender one fitted to a 300 tdi and it looks the goods. unfortunately with the 4bd1 and turbo there would not be enough room,

Ours is now lying down between the seats….the auto elec had to do some work on the internals so that it would drain correctly.

    Looks Good

Good job Bazzle and a cost effective solution! - I was considering one of those units but not enough room in a single cab.

Ours in mounted between the front seat…similar to a single cab. We have a hard top which has the same bulk head behind the front seats.

It was first install sitting upright, downfall was lack off elbow room……we lived with it for 2 years

Its now laying on its back…no cubby box but have more elbow room.
