						Hi all
My 99 Defender ran away the other day, I had fitted new injector O rings and washers but one of them failed catastrophically on the first drive.
It filled the head space and then sump with diesel, then filled the catch can, then through the intake and led to the runaway.
I stopped and jumped out, unclipped the MAF sensor from the airbox and smothered it with my hand to make it stop. It would have been running at full pelt only for 10 seconds maybe.
Got it home, drained about 30L of oily diesel from the sump, cleaned the whole intake system, catch can, oil change.
Just been driving it a bit around the block to test, and at low load it runs OK but blows oil smoke at full boost. It also pushes some oil into the catch can.
E.G. I brake boosted it in 2nd and it did a cool James Bond effect smoke screen and felt like it tried to run away again.
Thoughts?
Could those 10 seconds have killed the rings?
It's not the turbo seals, and running with the oil cap off at idle it doesn't produce any major smoke out of the valve cover.
I'm at a loss as to what to do, I really don't want to have to swap the engine.
-edit-
It's also not oil in the muffler as I don't have one. I figured the exhaust itself should be clean of oil after a half hour of driving around and EGTs peaking at 550 or so

Gave it a pretty good clean with degreaser, it was running out clear by the end. Could still be a little in it, but I wouldn't expect that much smoke out of it
Mine took about an hour of driving to clear it up after i had cleaned it out

OK, noted. I've got a big cooler out the front so may take longer. Hopefully that's all it is, I'd like to leakdown test it but don't have one.

Update: done some more laps, doesn't seem to be putting oil in the catch can now.
However when I brake boost it (give it the beans in 2nd while holding the brakes, to load it up and get it working) it still blows a little smoke, then when I lift off it gives a big cloud.
Any ideas?
