						Hello wise forum.
Is there a steering wheel I can buy that works with my new Lucas indicator with cancel function??
The indicator on my 85 county did not cancel when I straighten the wheel. After a few angry drivers let me have it thinking I was turning when I wasn’t, I decided to try and sort it out. Bought a new Lucas indicator that said it works with my year County. Didn’t work as planned…
- Pic1. The original indicator now appears to me to never have had an indicator cancel function.
- Pic2. The new Lucas indicator has a blue rotating collar that the cancels the indicator by way of slots in it which is obviously designed to engage with tabs or pegs coming down the steering wheel
- Pic3. With the steering wheel back on it is clear theres no way to engage with the rotating blue plastic collar so still no indicator cancelling.
- Pic4. The steering wheel does not look like any that I’ve ever seen and is therefore an imposter from another brand with a stuck on oval. Neat looking but incompatible with the indicator cancelling function.
Does anyone know of a steering wheel that fits the 36 spline shaft on my county and will engage with the rotating blue collar of the Lucas indicator?
-or-
an adapter that changes 36 spline to 48 and gets me a steering wheel with the outcome I want?
Any help is appreciated.

What Baz said, but I can’t confirm the arrow direction.

It’s a bit hard to tell from the pics, but it appears that wheel might not have the two metal prongs that engage in the slots either side of the blue plastic part.

You’re right Murray. No pins or tabs to engage the slots.
as suggested it could be an easy fix. I was thinking of tapping and drilling two holes in the underside face of the steering wheel and screwing in a couple of small bolts to lock into the slots but I have a hundred fiddly jobs to do in the country and kind of wanted a quick fix as well as an excuse to buy a LR steering wheel.
I'm pretty sure that the wheel you need is the same as the one on my 86 County (which does not look like that one!) and which I suspect, but am not certain, is the same as (or interchangeable with anyway) early Rangerover. The wheel and its attachment changed in 1987, and these are not interchangeable. I have not investigated but I believe you can get aftermarket 'Sports" wheels with interchangeable hubs that you can get to fit your shaft, but I do not know whether these have the prongs to fit the blue collar.
The correct wheel has a pair of prongs to go into the slots in the blue collar, but importantly, the prongs are on a disc that is only held aligned to the wheel by friction, so they can be adjusted correctly.

Thanks John! Based on your description of a two prong thing on a disk I went searching and found this thing in the pic below, it’s called a cancellation ring. Have order one and will see how it goes. Problem solved I think
That is it - I remembered it being a disc, but "tube" or "collar" is more accurate.

As everyone has said...
Doesnt look like the ring will fit that steering wheel, so a 110/county or later Defender wheel is prolly what you need or mod that one.
(The point on the blue collar goes to 9 o'clock)
