This has got warts all over it.
Perhaps if "take it back and tell him to do a proper job of it" is not an option, then plan B would be some questions to help diagnose:
1) Where is the light bar?
2) Pic of the back of the switch (and why do you think it is this switch that is worthy of attention).
2a) can you also accurately label the wire colours and pin locations?
3) Do lights in question work if you cycle the washer switch? If so, do lights go off if you have them ON and then press the washer switch?
This is the wiring diagram for the rear switch, but as you may notice when you look at 'switch - washer - rear screen (S114), there is only a White/Green and Black Green wire that sends power from the Fuse 14P, thru switch, to the pump mechanism. I can't seem to see these wires on that plug.
My guess would be if you are referring to a rear facing light, he's done a **** job of it, and jumped power from the within the rear door card at/near the pump, but as to 'why'... well who TF knows...
