    300Tdi timing belt kit

    Hi All,
What kit have people been using?

One supplier I'm looking at have an after market kit with seals, it shows a Britpart box and Daco belt for $240.
Or a genuine kit without seals for $470.

I'm I going to regret the after market one?

    Thanks

    Tony

As far as I know there is no issue with Dayco belts. With current supply issues getting genuine boxed LR stuff might be an issue. I remember someone ordering a belt for a Puma and he wanted genuine. The dealer said he could not get one due to supply issues so a Dayco was used. No issues reported.

nothing wrong with Dayco belts for timing on a tdi. I can't say the same for their serpentine belts tho ... squealing little bugga that mine was!

my D1 had a Dayco on it when I changed it, had hardened a lot, but no idea when it was fitted(why I changed it!). I used a Dayco.
Second one was done at 70 something tho klms due to a leaking front seal. Still in excellent condition, and seemed a shame to change it at the time.

Where I'd be weary of bluebox kits is their bearings/seals.
The kits comprise of the tensioner and idler which use bearings .. and if crappy quality could compromise the fitment of the belt.

But in saying that ... my first kit was off ebay, can't recall who or what brand but I do remember it was a LR parts seller .. so assumed it would be legit. as said, having changed it not that long ago, no wear on bearings nor tensioner.
The front main did spring a leak, but this could have been my fault. At 70K klms tho, I dare say it just leaked due to age. In the kit was a Corteco set of seals ... one main, one cover.

Will you DIY, or get the bits and send it to the mechanic?

    Just to wrap this up.
I've found and ordered a genuine (whatever thet means) kit priced between the other two.
Daco belt, INA tensioner and idler, OME seals.

See how it goes when we fit it up.

    Thanks for thr replies.

    Tony
