I would recommend the GAP tool over any other diagnostic tool out there, it will save you time.

    Hello All,

While I was getting a genuine key cut for my VY Commodore this afternoon I asked about Land Rover Defender 110 keys. The locksmith did not have the genuine black plastic head and metal key blank in stock. However they did have an all metal key blank. I had the key "code" cut as it would have come out from the factory. This is instead of copying off the worn 'genuine' key. Key blank supplied and code cut for $50.09 including GST. Yes the key does even fit and turn the ignition lock too.

At the end of the day I have a reliable key fob I can lock and unlock the Commodore all remotely again and I now have a spare key for Snowy my 110 Defender. The Commodore key was the original key that came with the car. The old key would reliably lock the car remotely however remotely unlocking the car had started to become a pretty hit and miss affair. For example, at the start of this week I drove, stopped and locked/unlocked the car at four spots around town. The remote key fob worked to lock the car each time. However, the remote unlock would not work. This meant I had to fit the key into the driver's door lock and turn the key forward. As soon as I opened the door the car alarm would go off. Then it was a quick scramble as I fit the key into the ignition and started the car so the alarm would stop. Nothing like being in the middle of a Bunnings, a Coles shopping centre car-park, a smaller independent shopping centre's car-park and then a take away place in a micro-shopping centre car-park - all with the car alarm blaring out to everyone near and far. So, I booked the car in to get that spare key that I had bought years ago programmed and cut. It is really great to be able to point a remote fob at your car and see the indicator lights flash on a couple of times, hear the locks sliding up and be open the door without the car alarm screaming at you. Yes - I readily admit to unlocking and locking and unlocking the car as I walked towards it a couple of times today - Happy day!

    Kind regards
    Lionel
