    VIN Plate details

In the picture below, the VIN Number of my 110 is in the second space from the top. What is the number in the top space?

If the second space is for the VINN, perhaps the first space is for the more simple VIN?

    Just a guess.

Mine has a number in it. MA 0007.

It was a CKD worldwide kit made up here in NZ in 1984. Just wondering what the number is for.

    Forgive my frivolity.

With the extra "0" in front of the "007", it's probably not "Bond, James Bond". The MA is a puzzle as well but in a mirror it could stand for Aston Martin.

    Are you sure it's not a DB5

    Anyway back to topic Q.

In Australia MC is the "Off road passenger vehicle" designation that defines what ADRs it needs to conform to.

Does NZ have it's own vehicle standards? Or do you share them with Australia, as a lot of our standards are.

    No Idea about the 0007

    On that plate mine has

    Build date
    VIN
    GVM
    GCM
    F axle mass
    R axle mass

Could be a build date code or also could be Approval type number. Could also be an assembly number. It is an early 110.

A quote from AROnline indicates the contract to assemble Land Rovers in NZ passed from NZ Motor Bodies Assembly to NZ Motor Corporation and NZMC had a plant in Nelson from 1966 to 1998. The year of this contract transfer appears to be 1975.

NZMC introduced the Austin/Morris/Wolseley 18/22 series, and with the expiry of NZ Motor Bodies’ assembly contract, Land Rover production was moved to Nelson, where the 110 and NZ Army 109 models were built. The last batch of 110s was actually built at Nelson whilst under Honda New Zealand ownership. For many years if one lifted the red-and-grey Honda corporate tablecloth in the Nelson plant boardroom, one would discover the green-and-yellow Land Rover tablecloth underneath…

Good call. That could be it. Vehicle classes | Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has MA as a passenger vehicle... MC here is the same as there some some common standards shared it appears. No indication given on the site as to what the number might be.
