07 puma defender cuts out at idle

    Howdy all,

Got an issue with my newish to me Defender which has now decided to start cutting out after first starting up. It may also feel a little down on power as well. I'm still working on diagnosing any rhyme or reason to it but being intermittent, its hard.

Anecdotally, doesnt seem to do it when warm? Otherwise does it within a minute of first starting the car up.

Keen on ideas to check easily. Also if anyone has a nanocom or other reader in Darwin I could borrow in exhange for slab, thatd be AMAZING.

    Cheers,
    Matt

Could be the VCV (Volume Control Valve, Vapor Control Valve, etc.).

If you stick a diagnostic tool in and it doesn't show any faults, it will most likely be the VCV. Once you fit a new one, no need to do a relearn as the engine can and will sort itself out after a period though if you want to do it, no worries.

    I hope this helps.

Agree likely the VCV (vacuum control valve or sometimes called SCV suction control valve) they seem to be a consumable and will cause cutting out. Genuine from LR at the cost of your firstborn or a genuine Denso one in a different box for around $100

I agree with what's been said but one other to consider is a possible air in the system. If it only happens at first start then fine it's something to also consider?

Bloody legends. Did a little more research on this and I reckon your all bang on with the VCV.

Will get one on order and have a crack at it!!

    Cheers,
    Matt

Get the Denso "G" Suffixed part!

Same as the LR one without the eye watering price tag!

While you're at it, get two! The spare will come in handy if the new valve suddenly decides to go kaputt! They are very sensitive to moisture and dirt so assuring that you have a clean fuel source is paramount to ensure their longevity. Some people even change these out once a year as maintenance item but I don't think you have to go that far unless your fuel sources are in question.

there is no such thing, its just LR Directs own part number listing.

As far as I know, "G" suffixed part numbers indicate the same part that LR uses from that particular supplier when assembling the trucks. So when you order the "G" suffixed part from the one who makes it, in this case Denso, you get the part that LR uses but not the price that LR wants when they put it in an LR box.

Most LR parts vendor usually have these in stock. I usually go for these when ordering so I save a few bucks but not compromising on the part.

If you have a trusted Denso vendor, you can give them the the LR part number and they can cross reference it, I believe. I think the actual Denso part number has been mentioned before though I have to check my records to find it.
