    Defender110 rear step removal

I want to remove the rear step on my 2016 110 to repaint it and refit it
it is held in by two bolts in the back cross member . There appears no way to access inside the
crossmember and the fuel tank in blocking access too

the question ……..is the step held in by undoable nuts inside the crossmember or are they captive

I can get the hex head bolts to loosen up and start to come out but haven’t tried to take them out as don’t want to end up with loose nuts inside an inaccessible space

anyone who has removed this back step advice appreciated

On mine they are nuts welded to the cross member, but I would caution that mine is a replacement crossmember, although I assume it copied original production.
