BAS 150HP City Tune - Results

Prior to remapping my 90 Puma was returning 11-12.5L/100km. I've used the truck the past week with a 90km commute through town and along the motorway. Into town in the morning I'm getting 7.3-7.5L/100km and coming home 8.3-8.5L/100km.

I am driving it a little more conservatively simply because I'm watching the mileage! This has been measured with a Scangauge 3.

Very happy and the exhaust note is great (decat turbo back straight pipe).

Pete was wonderful to deal with and never much time passed between email responses despite the timezone differences.

I'm going to save for the upgraded intercooler to make the next step up. My cylinder head temps have not changed, but I don't have an EGT sensor.

    Nice.
I get some pretty impressive instantaneous fuel economy figures with my puma 2.2 110 but regularly get low 10s litre per 100k overall.
I've had the BAS 150 tune for so long now I can't remember what it was before but I've probably got a record somewhere.
I too keep saying I'll save for the BAS intercooler and the 170 tune although I see that Pete now only makes the intercooler to order, so maybe I should place the order and hopefully I'll have the money by the time it's ready BAS 150HP City Tune - Results

I say to customers (and anyone else that wants to listen) you would be lucky to notice the difference the bigger intercooler makes, I have dyno'd numerous combinations when I am tuning the Defender 2.4 and 2.2, I cant pick it (nor can the dyno) so i dont put it on a must do list.

What difference it does make is:
its a reliable replacement for a 2.2 TDCi when the std intercooler splits. (the 2.4 rarely splits the intercooler)
operating temp (of the engine) is maybe 1 or 2 degrees down, its one of them little things that create a overall improvement rather than a OMG its awesome.

both the 2.4 and 2.2 are on my fav list of engines (MK 7 transit engine). Ford I believe did a respectable job on these engines.

Yeah I think it's more the reduction in operating temps that's the real benefit.
Pete won't sell the 170 tune down under unless you get the intercooler (or at least he wouldn't last time I checked).

He said I’d be fine with the city tune and std IC. I’m in NZ and may be would be ok… worst case temps may be upper 30s in summer. But only a few days a year.

I've got a 170 tune and BAS Intercooler. I don't drive for economy ever. 11 to the 100 is what I mostly get around town and not that mush better in the bush. I'm pretty merciless with my 2.2 110.
    Cheers, Billy.

Yeah I've got the same tune and he said the same to me and I'm in deepest, coldest Vic so probably not that much warmer than you!

My shiny new BAS intercooler is currently with the courier, hopefully arriving this week. Despite being made to order it dispatched within a week of ordering it from Pete.

Now the fun task of installing it along with some new hoses...

Well it's fitted along with hoses. First drive today and well ... no real difference, exactly as @DazzaTD5 said! It does cool down much quicker than previously when you come off the pedal, as evidenced by the Ultragauge.

Was a pretty smooth process even for a complete amateur like me. The elbow into the throttle is a bugger to get at, I went for the unbolt the water pump approach but you still need long arms. I also needed to add a couple of washers to the spacer BAS provided for keeping the IC and air con condenser separated (cardboard in the pic is keeping them from rubbing until that went in).

Unfortunately my not so great economy issue is still there so back to the drawing board on that front.
