Thread: 2012 Defender 130 (L316) air con compressor search

I need to find a replacement compressor for my Defender as the current one is seized. I think the part is 709GK A12 (the last numbers may be different). The air con guy reckons I'd be better trying to find one myself than getting him to source one but I've been searching online and I'm unsure whether what I can find is the correct one. Does anyone know a good place where I can source one? I checked with Land Rover and they were talking circa $4k (I'd rather go without)..

If you are handy on the tools, take the pulley off the compressor and see if the bearing in the pulley is fubar. you could replace the bearing if it's abe to be removed and replaced or just replace the whole pulley. Count the ribs (i think its 6 or 7) and find a spare from the Sanden parts bin. If the internals are seized, the AC comp is a bog stock sanden SD7H15. You could buy any compressor with that part number and swap the pulley and backing plate over from your existing one. If you are not inclined to bust open the spanners, don't buy from LR, find the sanden catelogue online and scroll until you find one with the same mounting arrangement, number of ribs and the same backplate. Then source that unit from an alternative car/truck.

I'm not overly handy on the tools unfortunately although I think if I had the time I could probably work through your instructions and learn a bit along the way. At least I know what the pulley is now after looking that up. I'll order the part Shack found and get the local AC guy to fit it. He's not a rip-off merchant so the labour shouldnt be too bad. If I try and do it it'll be sitting in my garage for months.
