    Defender Servicing costs Sydney

    Hi all,

Looking at getting my 2015 Defender 110 serviced (80,00km) in Sydney.

My first quote for an "Intermediate Service" was $1130 inc parts and GST.
I was informed this service would replace the engine oil, filter and air filter, and checks the level and condition of all drivetrain oils (gearbox, transfer case and differentials) as well as comprehensive checks.

I've left out the name of the shop on purpose but I have used them previously when I had my 2013 D90 and I always thought they did an exceptional job.

Just wondering what people are paying these days for servicing?

Crikey! That's a lot. I'm glad I do my own.

I don't think a 2015 Defender has any special requirements on oils unlike my L322.

I'm sure some experienced Defender owner can advise.

Well.. I just had my Defender 90 serviced MY21, Petrol P300 - 170,000km service. Serviced in Melbourne by a Land Rover Dealer.

Service included: Engine oil & oil filter, cabin filter, diff oils, transmission service. Plus they replaced the rear brakes (discs + pads).

    Total cost.... $7,187

Lol - I would say that $1,130 is a bargain! Lol

Apparently this is the 'largest' service for the current model Defender. The next service is a minor service according to the dealer - $1,300.00

I realise that mine is a newer Defender compared to yours - but in context, yours doesn't sound that bad...

They don't call them stealers for nothing... ;-)

    Cheers,
    GG.

Had same minor service done on a "garden variety 4WD" last week,by the dealer and it was $680.
Plus replacing of both DPF sensor hoses for an extra $185.00

I have always found LRs expensive to service, particularly at dealers.Repair prices are usually off the planet as well.
When we had the D4,the local LR Indi was around half the price, and did the job twice as well.

    Appreciate everyone’s replies.
For clarity. The quote is from a reputable Indie.

Sounds about right. The last intermediate service only I had on my 2015 110 was just over $1000. That was in January last year.

Agree it’s expensive. Well over double what I pay on my Subaru and that still gets serviced at the dealer.

    Cheers,
    Jon

I don't have a Defender as new as the OP, but I do have a late TD5, my costs are as follows

A full filter kit will be around $110 for mine using quality brands.

Full synth engine oil, 5W-30 is reasonably expensive, we buy it in 200l drums, so that drops the price considerably per litre, but that won't be passed on to the customer, which is fair enough I think.

I'm guessing about $70-80 for engine oil.

So with a few incidentals possibly and a little markup including labour, $600.

However that's if everything being done has been communicated to you properly and if there's no underlying issues anywhere.

    Then.... Who knows..

I installed a 4200kg hoist in my shed a couple of years ago, total cost around $3k, I was thinking it would pay for itself over a few years. Now I'm thinking it paid for itself the first time I used it.

Sydneysider here, up to end December had a MY2013 Defender. Always serviced by Davis Performance Landys. Last few services:
July 2025: $1940.xx for "A" service with a couple of small repairs (broken handbrake cable and a stop lamp lens had disintegrated)
Sept 2024: $3412.xx for "B" service with some decent repairs (rear discs and brake pads, both sides swivel seals)
April 2023: $2699.xx for "A" service with repairs (front discs and pads replaced, power window repairs, all front wheel bearings and seals replaced)

Makes $1130 look like a fair price.

    Cheers

I just did a quick count of my records, and I've done 28 services of various types inc the usual oils/filters etc plus brake jobs, timing belts and various other repairs since owning Defenders ... all done 'on my back'. Based on the sorts of numbers being quoted here I've saved enough now to justify some new toys too!
