She then goes on to tell me about her husband's 110 issues - not serious - key barrel needed to be replaced and electric windows not working. That's ok, I can live with that. She then told me that she has traded her Range Rover 8yo in - apparently sunroof continually leaked and drained water into the vehicle (is it a car or truck??) and into the wiring looms etc. Has paid aout 10s of thousands of dollars in repairs, new nav screens, totally rewired etc... She has traded it in on a Toyota Cruiser. They gave her $8000 on a vehicle that cost $100K or more 8 years ago... She's "'had' land rovers...."

Next client in - a middle aged pom lassie, also spotted the new Deefa in my car park. She grinned - I grinned back.. "Yep - a pommy truck", I said. (Thinking I may have a friend..) "Why would you buy one of those"?, she screams at me! "Have you had any problems with it"? "The last time I was in one of those we had to cross the Ural Mountains in reverse, because the gear box chucked it in".

I'm already scared and sick of people telling me what a load of ^&%%^%^&% LR are...

Now I'm feeling nervous about the lease I've just signed as of last week...

Please - I need a boost from aulro...

Just take it out and enjoy driving it. Let it take you to some of the more remote spots - where you are unlikely to see any other 4WDs let alone other cars.

Dont listen to the negative stuff people have to say.
I have heard of all kinds of dramas with Range Rovers, Land Rovers and Ladas...

But in amongst listening to people bagging them I discover the automotive horror stories of the vehicle they drive which they accept as ok. But if it happened to something without a jap badge then clearly the car is best avoided like the clap.
Every make has issues, even the popular ones.
I owned a string of rangies which should have bankrupted and mechanically drstroyed me according to all and sundry who remarked on them. All I had was way more cheap fun than they did, went more places and made nice noises doing it.

Your deefer will most likely give you many years of great motoring and adventures, enjoy it!

    Their just awesome vehicles

We've just returned from a week long trip through the desert country of lower East SA and Vic, and I have to tell you, there is no other car I'd have rather done it in.
We had a D1, two D2's, a Rangie, a Hybrid (S3-Rangie) and myself in the Puma.
All the vehicles are incredibly capable, none are modified with big lifts/tyres etc.
But,,, I believe Mick (Hybrid) and myself,, had more fun There's just something about cruising along with your arm comfortably out the window in an "old style" Landie, (even though I have air con )

Whilst away, we were at a pub for dinner, and outside having a fag, a local commented on how good his old Landie with a 186 in it went,, "heaps better than any of the Toyo's, Nissan's" he's had,,

Can't show you my defender after today's jaunt out at local Meryla. (Yes I can..) This I know.... my deefa took everything in it's stride ..... mud, deep ruts, creek crossings, bog holes, ledge hoping, rock crawling to an extent. We met up with Toymotor owners and Patrols... in fairness my 110 puma shone! Had a Patrol owner asking some serious questions, even though when we first met him, ad hoc on the trail as he bagged land rovers over the uhf. "Is that defender locked"? No - it's stock standard.................. I even had fun on the black top testing out the pumas great suspension and sway bars. Smiles again...

    Took a few post:
    Day 1 of ownership:

    Day 13!

    Day 1:

    Day 13:

The mud on the canvas back corner was as a result of trying to get out of very deep hole and being near vertical and leaning back onto a two metre bank. Pete didn't fair so well - he ended witha dent in his back rear panel near the back window of his 110 wagon.

Between 1997 and 2000, the Defender 90 and 110 were offered with a BMW petrol engine alongside the normal Tdi engine. The engine was the BMW M52 2800 cc, straight-six, 24-valve engine as found in the BMW 328i, 528i, 728i and the Z3. Power and torque output for this engine was 142 kW (190 hp) @ 5500 rpm and 280 N·m (207 lb·ft) @ 3500 rpm. This option was offered due to a demand for a petrol-driven alternative to the diesel engine after production of the V8 Defender had ended. The vehicles were built at Rosslyn outside Pretoria. Total production for the 2.8i was 632 Defender 90s and 410 Defender 110s. Early models were not speed-restricted, but later models were limited to 160 km/h.
