I have an Airtech snorkel fitted to my TD5 and the arial is unmodified and in the original position. I beleive it was fitted by TJM although I can't guarantee this as it was supplied on the car from the dealer when I bought it new.
I'm getting a snorkel fitted by ARB tomorrow. They said that they remove the aerial and plug the hole and drill a new hole further along the guard for it. I'm not keen on this and I know I've seen people with them angled but after several searches couldn't find anything.
Can anybody help with this? Tell me how they did it and a photo would be great!
Thanks!

						Hi,
The problem is the bottom aerial mount - it need to be cut off to fit the snorkel tube. So you can either remove the bottom mount and let the aerial rest on the snorkel tube, ie angled. Or you can replace the aerial with a new one - like the black metal ones with a small spring on them that don't need a bottom mount.
I too was not going to cut another hole in the guard!!

Exactly - just change the aerial to the whip type and you will be ok
Hello Captain Rightfoot,
As stated earlier, the bottom mount needs to be cut off. Actually along with the tube that the antennae retracts into. It can then rest on the snorkel tubing. The antennae will not retract fully this way. It sticks up about 100mm if I remember properly.
Good luck,
Ken
I have a safari snorkel and as said with a bit of modding or a different aerial you can fit it. Another option is a cb whip aerial. I have mine mounted on the bullbar as I have chequer plate wings over the hole.

You can put the stub aerials on or you can actually just slightly tilt the aerial. It won't harm reception at all and is not obvious but it does cut down on another hole in your vehicle. Don't let them put a hole in it.

Thanks all.I will tell them not to cut another hole and give them some hints on how to mod it.
I'll give you all an update tonight.

Yep look at the GME whip type, solve your problem and get better reception.

Ok I've got the car back. I must say they did a fantastic job. I'd say they did a top job. It's a Safari snorkel. I haven't looked under the bonnet but they tilted the aerial
The only thing that isn't right (and it's not their fault) but my door opens a little too wide and hits on the snorkel. This unfortunately stops the door just clicking on the latch, which means there is now no way of actually opening the drivers door and leaving it open. IE on my level garage floor it is now impossible to open the door and leave it open without holding it. Is it just me, or is that going to get **really** annoying.
It's really not their fault, and I can't see what they could have done to change the outcome. I think the only option is going to be to make up a shorter door strap.
On the plus side strangely it's actually reduced the cabin noise so I guess that their must have been some induction noise getting into the cabin. Also it isn't as visible from the drivers seat as I would have thought. I'll look again in the morning, but I really think they have done an excellent job.
