    Speaking of Defender springs...

    Hi All

    My front springs are tired, the only way I know to confirm this is that I can't get my palm and fingers in under the bump stops without a tight squeeze. Also a mates Defender has new springs and I realised mine is lower and leaning forward. I think the back ones are OK but should you do the full set when changing them?

    I have Biltsteins and no need or desire for a lift but I do use a bonnet mount tyre and have a bull bar and do a fair bit of gravel driving up north on holidays, should I be considering something non standard?

    Can't complain about the original springs, they made it this far but fo all i know other may transform the handling

    I can't say anything about different springs improving ride or handling but I would recommend that if you re-set or replace the front springs you should do the rears as well. There are dynamic forces at work between the front and rear when cornering that a front only refurb could have an effect on.

    Unless you have carried a huge weight for a long period of time the rear coils will be fine. They are built to carry a huge weight and running light will not tax them at all. I changed only the fronts on mine to the single rate springs (like 130's) and the truck now sits level. Disco's and Rangies will stuff all the springs at the same time, sagging rears are common, but not the 110's, they are huge by comparrison. There is nothing wrong with the original 110 rears. I wouldn't go any stiffer or higher than the factory ones.

    Stephen i see you said RE SET or replace the springs, is it actually possible to reset coils? Just curious. Never heard of it being done. Not even sure how you would do it. Heat it up and stretch it perhaps.
