    Mystery Warning Light

    Hi guys

I have just had a warning light come on that is not covered in the Owners Handbook; it looks a little like a baking tray with a wiggle-line in it plus a drip underneath. On my 2003 Defender its under the ABS light and next to the Transmission oil temperature light.

Its a bit odd that every other symbol is covered in the Owners Handbook except for this one - I can't even guess what its telling me!

Anyone know what it is from my shabby description above? I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a good enough photo of it to post here. I've done a bit of internet searching but can't find anywhere that list all the warning lights and what they mean...

Not sure, the oil pressure warning light is an 'oil can', and is also mentioned in the owners handbook, the one that I have illuminated is not mentioned in my handbook.

Is there a separate warning light for oil level? I guess the symbol could be indicative of low oil; the vehicle is not on level ground at the moment (hilly area), so the actual oil level in the vehicle has not been checked yet (its not actually here with me, my wife has called me to let me know this light has come up - I need to decide whether to abandon the car where it is for me to go and work on in location, or get her to drive it home...)

Yes it is the water in the fuel filter warning light.

AFAIK That means either you need drain the fuel filter or the sensor is malfunctioning (short somewhere).

It is a "water in the fuel" sensor. From memory it sits on the plug that goes into the fuel filter on the rear chassis. It doesn't necessarily mean there is water in your fuel lines, driving through a puddle with water splashing on the fuel filter unit can trigger the warning light. Might be worthwhile just to remove, clean and dry it out and see if the warning light goes off.

Thanks guys - why the hell wouldn't they put that in the bloody handbook!

Its never come up before, but it is raining today, so maybe some spray has got to it. The vehicles driving OK, so I think I'll risk getting the wife to drive it home and then I'll give it a clean up and see if it goes out...

I would have thought it's like every other warning light... apparently they all mean

'Contact your Land Rover Authorised Service Centre".
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
