An addendum to the last post. Talked to my better half last night and turns out she was listening to the stereo on Classical music setting. Once I showed her the different sound settings she switched to 'rock' and she is now much happier with it. When she pulled out of the driveway this morning heading to across the Nullarbor she had the iPod in the stereo cranking....

Can you post up a pic of the unit in the Defender when your other half returns from the Nullarbor?

i just bought my self a FM transmitter which is designed to plug into your Ipod and playback to your car radio. I have a phone which has ipod built into it and tryed it out yesterday. fantastic , works a treat and no wiring to be done. simply tune your radio to match the out put and plug in and have your songs on the radio.
    very happy

    cheers

No problem on the photo. She will be back next weekend and I will post a couple of photos then. The Fusion unit is the same dimensions as the standard Land Rover one we replaced, but the facia just sticks out a little bit further.

We also have two different model Belkin FM transmitters. They sound great in my car which has a crappier set of speakers but not as good on the stereos in the Puma or TD5 as they both have tweeters. They are handy little units though.

Belkin Transmitters... eeek! I've gone through 4 of them (2 and each replaced under warranty) and wouldn't get another. We currently have a Monster Cable iPod FM transmitter.

In theory 4 pieces of wire one in each hole on the sides of the unit should release the clamps.

Haven't had to do this yet. In practice, there may also be several "words of power and persuasion " required.

    But not enough of this:

Just needed a bit more "brute force".

    Cheers,

I made do without an FM transmitter for quite a while and then found the Belkins for $15 in the bargain bin. I bought one for each car as a stop gap so was not too worried about the performance as they were better than nothing!

So far so good but if and when these die I will definitely get a better unit for my car. The Defender has the Fusion iPod unit so doesn't need one.
