Thread: Puma Defender potential problems?

The steering can get damaged so fit a guard,ditto diff's,sills,bodywork,fuel tank.bugger it lets just checker plate the whole underside.Tojo's have the cooler behind the passenger side front wheel and cop everything and I haven't had to fix one yet.They can't be that important either as they block up at the first sign of mud.Buy a short piece of fuel hose with the same fittings and put it in your toolbox so you bypass it if you hole it. The connections are all plastic and I think would snap off easily if hit hard.
The service manager at ULR even mentioned this to me when I was taking delivery.

The first trip in the bush wiped the coolant line off the cooler, so I am thinking of replacing all plastic lines and cooler for rubber hoses and an air cooled fuel cooler. Does anyone know what the fuel pressure is from the tank to high pressure pump, will normal fuel hose handle the job?

Any advice muchly appreciated.

Everything has potential problems, nothing is perfect. It would be akin to going on a site and asking whether all the potential problems with the opposite sex had been sorted out as you were thinking of starting a relationship. You could be asking whether potential health issues have been sorted or whether there is a guarantee that the relationship will last. Though you may get a medical cert for the former and a written guarantee for the latter it would not be 100%. Sure the Puma has issues but I am happy with mine. The vehicle is set up for general use but common sense would dictate that if serious off-roading or overlanding is planned then some additional preparation may be prudent. You might think that the vehicle should be already capable of such things. In the main it is but every eventuality cannot be considered by the manufacturer. Imagine if winches, raised suspension, snorkel, skid plates etc came as standard, the cost would be prohibitive and it would put the vehicle out of reach of a lot of people-me included. The vehicle is adaptable enough to enable the purchaser to add on these additions if necessary without too much work. I would say that users of most makes of similar vehicles go to these measures. Though in a Defender you usually need less add ons and they are usually easier to fit to the Defender than most. Anyway you are right to be cautious but life itself is uncertain-but the vehicle will give you much more joy than grief. Enjoy them while you can-no one knows what will be dreamt up to replace the Defender to please the bureaucrats.

A few of us have the transguard. The fuel cooler guard is a nice to have.

It depends how much you want or need to harden it up.
