    01 Td5 Defender

Im looking at a 01 Td5 Defender , Anyone know what year they changed over to the rover type rear Diff and what year had the issues with the oil pump bolt
And any other issues relating to that year model would be good
    Thanks in advance

theres nothing wrong with the rover diff....if it has a locker fitted deffinatly dont have to shave it!
i think it was 2003 that the rover diff made it back in but i may be wrong??

the oil pump bolt should be sorted but its something a dealer should be able to confirm for you. either way its only a hour to do the job.

    cheers phil

I agree with Phil, I think the change was the 03 model year.

01 would still be in the risk area I think. Mine is 01, and I dropped the sump, and while the bolt was tight, it didn't have any trace of loctite on it.

the diff changed in late 02.

as a rule of thumb.... if you have a sals you have the potential for the pump bolt to be loose and should also have the older 2 wire TPS.

    2 wire TPS ?
The car only has 100k,s so its in realy good nick
Not that the diff will worry me as i have a sals with a locker for it
Im a bit concerned at all the woes with the Td5,s after jumping from a ever reliable Tdi Defender but its something that i have to do or get another Tdi but they still want stupid money for Tdi,s

2 different version of throttle position sensor. Up to 2001/2 they had the 2 track version. After that they had the 3 track pedal. (for confusion the 2 track one doesnt have 2 wires!)

There were a number of improvements in the 2002 onward model year, including one piece rear door, different method of holding rear body onto x member, rear fog and reversing lights, horizontal radio panel in dash etc etc.

Well i took this fender for a drive today All i can say is it must be chipped (bugger that swear filter)
Yep very impressed compared to my slightly tweaked Tdi , The thing just fly,s
Pulls like a bull in 5th from 60-80 , 80-100 , a little sluggish of the line from a stand still tho
The rev,s hang on inbetween gear change,s is this a Td5 thing ?
All the drive train seems tight and noise free a couple of issues , front wipers dont park , rear wiper does,nt work ,Hazzard lights dont work the roadie should have them fixed i hope
I also drove a 2000 Td5 manual disco what a slug compared to the fender ,Ok the disco had twice as many k,s
Im swaying towards this thing (fender) what do you guys think ?
