A 130 will never be as capable as a 110 in the tight stuff, locker or not - the rear spring rate and wheel base will ensure that. Buy a winch instead of lockers! But on the fast dirt getting there the 130 will out ride the 110 on the terrain. 17" makes a goodly difference on fast dirt.

Obviously building trays will cost bucks but it seems 1.8 by 1.8m trays come up pretty regularly in the papers?

I had hesitations about getting a 130 upgrading from a disco... there is no way I would ever go back to a disco/ranga or even 110 the DC with tray is the ultimate tool!

Im at Frederickton on the mid north coast of NSW.
I paid $51k for my puma 110 6mths ago. $53k was the best i could get on a 130. If i didnt already have my new puma i would seriously look at that 130.
Too late now but will look again in another 4 years.
    Thanks tho.

    Didn't realise i was whinging.
A number of people have asked why the DC130 is so much dearer. The dealers and sales staff dont know so i thought i would put it to some of our learned gentlemen and ladies on this forum just for some form of answer. The local dealer here said when you find out let him know. So im finding out. I'm very happy with what i have and what i paid.

As quoted it is supply and demmand if a company imports 200 of one model and 20 of another they will be able to get the better deal on the supply of the larger order.
If you check Dual cabs in other brands and compare to wagen equvilent ie
Navara - Pathfinder or Hilux -Prado or Triton- Pajero you will find that the suspension under the Ute is Leaf spring solid axle set up which has been around since ohh say a Series 1 landrover (no offence) and they do not have traction control or abs etc and there wagon counterparts have Independent or muli link rear coil rear ends with all the fancy letters for what they have ABS ETC HDC Etc Etc.
So because people will pay for the dual cab basic suspension as they wont a 4 door Ute for work or Play they charge by demand.
At least the 130 has a similar set up to the 110 and it is brought in in limited numbers and you pay with regards to supply.
    My thougts on the matter.
The salesmen would now the reasons but will not tell as they are there to sell positives on vehicles and they are tought to disregard negatives and change the conversation to positives to increase chance of sale.

Thanks very much for that. That is the basic answer i had come up with but thought there may have been some other extenuating reason. Thanks all for your inputs.

IME, 130s are usually much better when climbing of descending - thanks to the wheelbase. If you remove the inner coils when going offroad the back end flexes quite well. Sure, in the tight stuff you have a harder time, and have to do the odd 50-point turn...

Why I don't go near cities in the 130

I was told once that 130's are built by LR Special Vehicles.
Camel Landy can confirm/deny that one.

Also, there is more work in the 130.
For starters they take a perfectly good 110 chassis off the line and run the band saw through it, then add a new section with all the associated boxing to make it strong enough.

A classic cut and shut done at the factory

Worth the extra $$ they charge though.... ??

No worries. I didnt think your were but just wasnt 100% sure. Alls good. Its good to get a few points of view on this as i have been asked by many people why they are dearer and no-one really seemed to have an actual or factual answer just mostly speculation. A few points have come out that i never considered. Thanks again folks.

At the Melb Motor Show back in March 2007 when the MY07 Defender was first shown here a display board showed the three versions to be available - 110 wagon, 130 DC and 90 (to special order). Haven't heard anything since

[QUOTEOriginally posted by Beforethevision] I agree with your winge. Even if it just included ABS/TC and was a few thousand more again it would be fine. The dealer told me it was due the the GVM , and that "trucks only recently have added ABS". Apparently the 3050kg->3500kg difference is massive lol.[/QUOTE]
Benz trucks were first available with ABS here from about 1982!
