TDV8 cruisers need the engine removed to change the starter even though it's in the valley.Anything bellow the rocker covers needs the engine removed.Jap cars have been like that for years. Pat

I actually sent a letter to LR asking them if they wanted to give the market away ! If the "toy boys" can put a de-tuned version off their v8 turbo diesel into a front coil/rear LEAF sprung imitation why the hell couldnt they put a equally powerful 3.6v8 td :rocket:detuned from the rr sport into an all coil defender in the name off competition!!
The price difference at the moment is almost $10,000 so if Land Rover where serious they could have stuck a 3.6v8 td in and still been 2-3k under the cost off the toyo designed in 76! Instead we get a "tarted up" defender with seats that should be standard and an extra 17K on the price for nice paint n a few stickers!!!
XSiV wroteGM in the states have deferred making the 4.5L which is a shame. Would of been a nice compact package.Mayber land rover could buy the rights/tooling and upgrade the defender? Doubt it! Next upgraded defender will probally be a 3 cyl diesel with a 15 speed gearbox!:wasntme: .Quote:

Gaz,
A tutorial on this conversion would be fantastic and I am sure we can get it as a sticky somewhere when you get time. Details of modifications, parts and equipment suppliers and dramas you come up against would be a bonus and very valuable to the fraternity. I for one would be looking at this option when the TD5 gets tired.
Cheers
CraigE
I second that motion, though I think the 4.5 would be plenty and in saying that I hope the td5 lasts quite a few years yet.
Good work Gaz I'm watching with keen interest and look forward to more photos.
Josh,
I have a build up thread going in the projects section but not much action in the last few weeks. Been buying pipe for my exhaust, intake plumbing and sorting out how to do a spud shaft so bugger all progress.Time to pull my finger out shortly.
Cheers Gaz

in qld we can only go to 5L in a fender (i only wanted a piddly genIII), the duramax would be such a weapon!! been following the build of the nissan on outers and its mainly stock and simply a crazy weapon:twisted::twisted:
all the best bud and keep us posted!!
gaz do you mind if i ask what the donk set u back, $10kish? 2nd hand?
def-90 WroteI approached the engineer early on (in Victoria) and he was not keen at first. When he saw the vehicle and checked out chassis strength, body confirguration he said go for it. I have heard QLD is hard to get engineering done on modified vehicles! Heath has done a good job on the nissan and good to see the footage on Youtube blowing off the ricers:twisted:. My plan is to keep it looking fairly stock but if i hit the throttle it will blow the doors off a 200 series.Quote:

That's a shame a 4.5 would have been perfect, as you said, compact and a little less thirsty than the 6.6. My first car was a HG with the 253ci it was a sweet V8 not so thirsty but heaps of grunt.
Looking at the photo it looks very compact for a 6.6. I can't wait to see it in action. Once it's finished I may have to drive down to SA and have a 130 gathering. ;)
Thanks, I'll check it out.
You'll probably find it'll blow the doors off your 130 at the same time!:lol2:
XSiV wroteOckie straps will fix the doors:D and you are most welcome down here in south OZ. There is a few of us in the woodwork around here. Bet you wish you still had the HG. Worth a few bob now!Quote:
