1999 td5 110 fuel pump stays on [screeching] when stationary and driving and engine power seems very sluggish from take-off up to 70kmh. Engine sounds like an injector has failed [possible?]. Dash lights show nothing unusual. Checked fuses and relays - all seem OK. Drained secondary fuel filter, no water present. Checked electrical connections on ECU, air filter, under bonnet etc all OK.
Engine sounds like 3-4 cylinders are working when at idle. Is this 'limp home mode' and if so why?
I just had the oil cooler replaced, engine flushed and a major service, but it drove fine for three days and now this. Any thoughts on the cause or the solution?

Checked the harness. Clean and good [no oil as per usual]. Methinks fuel pump might be the culprit. Is it an easy fix?

no, its a pita in a deefer...
search around for cutting the hole in the back floor so you can get to the pump without dropping the tank (which can also require the removal of the tow pack if you have one of the wrong ones (ok its not wrong its just different and gets in the way of dropping the tank))

Hi Guys,
Turns out No.5 injector was misfiring, MAF was faulty and fuel pump regulator was faulty. All repaired / replaced and it's now working a treat. Apparently the fuel pump is OK [according to ECU log]. Here's hoping it all stays working as we head off soon for a three week pilbara-coast adventure.
When fuel pumps fail they tend to loose the ability to maintain the fuel rail pressure.
You can plug a pressure gauge in (back of engine, in front of bulkhead, steering wheel side).
Go for a drive it should maintain 4 bar at tickover and right through the rev range.
Worth checking before you go to the bother of swapping it out cos its a real pita!
