    Axial play in 300Tdi turbo

    Hi People,
I can grab my turbo's impeller and move it in and out around 1-2 mm. I don't blow smoke except the start-up puff; should I be saving up for a reco or pulling it and getting it done ASAP? If the latter, any pointers in North/West Melbourne?

    Ta!

thats a bit much but its not too bad, the radial play is the more important bit.

    your ok.

I start to go ummm you might want to think about rebuilding at 3-4mm play as after that you can start to grind the wheels and as soon as radial play exceeds about 3 thou if axial play is over about 10 tho

    Dave,
This may be unrelated but I thought it worth mentioning:
You know what a swannee (?) whistle sounds like? Well, about 50% of the time on start-up I get this weird flute-like sound that sometimes rises smoothly in pitch like that darn whistle... I've checked all the hoses and clamps but to my untrained ears it definitely sounds like something sucking or blowing. It even sounds quite comical and I usually look around to see if anyone's staring!
