The plastic fuel lines on my 1970 2a are still serviceable ........... which is no guarantee that the plastic used thirteen years ago is as good as it was nearly fifty years ago! But the ones on the 1986 110 are also still good.

Hi All,
Some thing has been worrying me for a while and wanted some input. I have noticed that the fuel lines on my 96 tdi 130 are made of plastic. Has any one heard of these cracking or failing? Mine have not, just like to do preventative maintanance. 13 years and lots of vibrations and fuel= brittle, any advice?
Thanks
Mal

I had one of my 28 year old plastic fuel lines fail the other day, I accidently left the soldering iron sitting on it for a few minutes.
I suspect they are the least of your problems

The line between the pump and fuel filter can fail, but this is due to the line not being long enough to allow enough flex. The engine moves on its mounts, but the filter is fixed to the firewall.
Its a good idea to replace this line with a longer one.
Edit: this applies to disco I, sorry don't know if it applies to defenders.
