Thread: Storage Drawers

I checked them out - I didn't think they worked too well, they didn't run smoothly, plastic stuff will break eventually and generally not up to the standard of the Outback drawers (which I put in my Puma). I haven't had any issue with the weight of the Outback system either, mate. I drove around Australia chockers no probs - standard springs. A Fender has a big payload - might as well use it. I never get worse than 10l / 100km either.

But the Black Widow setup might be better as their system allows the only known easily done cargo barrier to go with it.

Sorry - just realised you're a 7 seater - mate, it's one or the other I'd have thought.

It doesn't really help svx37, but for folks up my way, there's a boilermaker chap in my area that's started making 4wd drawers and roof bars and things. His work appears to be first class, and I'm quite sure he'd be far cheaper than the Opposite Locks and the ARBs. And a nicer bloke you would never meet. His name's Steve and his number is 0414270164.

I looked at the OL ones too. They are the Boab system (imported by Dolium) and don't look too bad except for the price. They are a simple slide and plastic box arrangement but I wasn't to happy on the plastic box quality.

I just made this up for the back of my County on saturday, one sheet of flooring grade chipboard and a pair of 90kg load roller bearing drawer runners. All I have to do now is cover the exterior in carpet / rubber matting

Only downside is the weight, but cost was under $200

I bought the Boab drawers for my Puma, for the reason that they looked pretty easy to take in and out... but they aren't.

If you just leave them in the back without bolting them down they bounce around and are a general pain in the rear. I ended up drilling some holes and bolting them to the floor. then got a sheet of aluminium bent up to make a roof for them.

Also, they are exactly the right height for the old defender, (td5 tdi) but the Puma has a lower height wheel arch, which means you don't get a flat rear area.

and lastly, the drawer doesn't come out far enough to access the rear 2 boxes without taking the first 2 boxes out first.

The good points...
They are a fair bit cheaper than the Outback system.

I like the plastic "gomo" boxes as you can get a few spares and then take what you need depending on where you are going (have a tool box, recovery box, camping box, ect)

The rollers are nice and strong and its made from pretty heavy duty steel.

The "dead space" between the drawers and wheel arch on the right hand side is a decent size for hiding odds and sods.

Any way that all I can think of at the moment.

I'll take a photo tomorrow if I get time and post it here.
