    Spare Wheel Carrier - Defender

Does anyone in Brisbane have a Defender DT5 or the new model DT4 with a Karmar spare wheel carrier as I need some information on this carrier.

X-box has one - his seems fine and perhaps you might PM him about it. My OL one was completely under engineered - it has broken in multiple spots. However, to OL's credit, they have repaired it each time.

Mine is now so over engineered, that I reckon I could hang Rus Hinze's lunch box from it - no probs!

There are a few differences between rear cross members on different models.
Early Countys still have the hinge tabs for the drop down tail gate, and the flat tabs that connect the cross member and body are welded to the face of the cross member on all Countys, this can interfere with some wheel carrier mounts. On Defenders (not sure about early ones) the body tabs are on top of the cross member, leaving a flat surface to mount to. On Defenders from ~02 the gap between the cross member and the body is filled in with a metal trim. The Kaymar mounting bracket has a flat metal bar with a bend in it which would usually go through that gap and bolts to a gusset on the side of the chassis.
I've only noticed these differences since I started designing a new wheel carrier for my County, and I had a request from another forum member to build one to suit a Puma SVX. It's surprising just how many little variations you find when you need detail. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...er-county.html
