Thread: TD5 Service intervals

For extreme arduous use, maybe every 5000, but the TD5 has a centrifical oil filter (as well as the normal filter) and in the UK they go for 20,000Kms between service. The extra filter keeps the oil cleaner much longer. Every 5,000 and you a re probably changing pretty clean oil, which is a waste of money really.

I'd think 10,000Kms for Aust conditions is all you need unless you are costantly in bulldust etc and working it under severe conditions.

Doing your UJs every 5,000 is a good idea though

I see you are down south from me. Where are you taking your 130 to get it serviced?

As long as you are using the correct fully synthetic oil,& not driving in arduous conditions,you are throwing your money to the birds changing the oil every 5k.

In most driving conditions they will be OK going to 20k.

I had the oil tested twice in the MY99 one i had ,bought new,by Castrol & it was OK at 20k,but there advice was to change it.Both times it was also tested at 15k as well,& advice was to keep going to 20k

When i first go my defender td5, due to the owner keeping the records for tax purposes i was a bit lost as to the service history, i replaced the oil every 5000km for first 2 services with semi synthetic, then i went to the 10000km with full synthetic, My reason was to flush the unknown oil out with the good stuff, also to slowly convert the engine to full synthetic oil. No point putting good stuff in if it is mixing with ****...

To my mate in McLaren Vale.

I know there is a Land Rover "expert" in Willunga but it would be a big kick in the guts to this other guy who has never done anything wrong.

I am not sure if he is using synthetic or not. I will check, might be worth changing over now and replacing again at 220K then changing to 10k intervals.

I do alot of vineyard work so she works in reasonably dusty conditions as my air filters will testify
