    Repair or replace??

I changed all of my radiator hoses the other day and all went well, new coolant all good, then the next day thanks to this form i did a search on low water sensor using a rr classic cap and found out it pulls apart and i by passed the 680 ohm resistor and use the reed switch to drive a mini relay and light/buzzer. All good till after i took it for a 20k drive and upon return i found the small hose that goes over the pully had rubbed on the pully (not warn through but enough to not leave like this). I have been told to go to exhaust joint and get a piece of pipe with 2 flares and cut the new rubbed through hose and join it with hose clamps as a permanent fix have any of you done this or should i get new new hose and dump new coolant etc ??? please advise.

I don't know 300tdi defender so don't quite get the problem. However, a new hose would probably be less hassle. If you get the right size steel pipe you shouldn't need to flare the hose.

If it was me I would replace the hose, but collect, strain and reuse the coolant.

Or you could try some of that self-vulcanising rubber tape.
