Hello everyone! this is the best web spot for land rover lover!
I'm new to australia and even more new to the land rover world!
I just bought a 1985 County V8 3.5lt 110 from NSW and I'm in Victoria. The Land Rover is unregistred and has no number plates.
I'm desperate to register it and get out in the bush, but I have no idea who sould I contact to fix my 110 and I can't afford expensive repair.
Can any one help me to understand what to do and what to expect?
The car has few little (really little) rusted bits, few globe to be replaced and some oil leaking.
Overall the car looks great and the motor sound fantastic. It's really quite and starts with no problem.
I live in Elwood and I will be delighted and gratefull to get some real onest advice from someone that knows more this babies!
 Thank you very much!
 Sab

					Hi Sab,
 Welcome to Land Rover ownership...
What I suggest you do is get a temporary registration off the RTA and visit a couple of mechanics to get an assessment of the vehicle. The temp reg allows you to drive straight to a RWC ( roadworthy certificate) place or mechanics to make it roadworthy, but you would need to be able to prove you are doing this if pulled over by the cops. The form is stuck on your windshield, instead of number plates. I'd suggest you also get a cover note, if the insurance company will do that for an unreg car.
Things like excessive rust and oil loss will not pass a RWC.
Glen at Roverland in Scoresby would give a straight assessment.
 Regards,
 David

Sab, in order to get your landy right and not get ripped of buy a copy of the land rover workshop manual for your specific vehicle, this way you will have a better understanding of what bits can go wrong leak oil etc.

Then after identifying the parts that need correcting go to your local mechanic and ask him if he has any dealings with land rovers, i am guessing ones who don't know what they are doing won't want to touch it.

Buy yourself some 1/2 sockets from supercheap auto for about $120 and also some ring spanners, a 3 tonne trolley jack, axle stands,
You will need loctite at some point to fix the threads of bolts and maybe a torque wrench to tighten bolts up correctly.
Do not attempt anything you are not totally clued up about always chock the wheels when working under your vehicle.
And if in doubt come on this forum and search for you answer or bug the hell out the boys who know, they are a good sort and will see you right...good luck chap Regards Andy
